ABOUT LINEN

  1. What is flax linen and how is it made?
Our linen material is 100% vegan which is derived from the flax plant, it starts life as a fibre in the stem which is then harvested before being spun into threads that become sheets.

Manufacturing flax linen is no walk in the park; it requires time, the right amount of water, and also climate conditions to get things perfect. It takes 3 months from the start to finish from sowing to washing.

The best and premium flax linen only grows in the cool, damp soils of France, Belgium, Italy, and Ukraine. Linen is made when the bark surrounding the cellulose fiber is decomposed. It is squeezed, dried, combed, and spun; these processes the quality and strength of the flax. Lastly, these luxurious linens will be spinned and dyed to produce the linens that you’d be sleeping and love for years.

  2. Why is your linen sheets more expensive than any other regular sheets?
Linen is definitely more costly than most other fabrics because the flax plant which linen originates from demands special care and attention while being not elastic, and therefore it is very difficult to weave without breaking threads. Linen is usually more expensive relatively caused by the rarity which is only produced in rather small quantities. It also has a long staple relative to cotton and other natural fibers. With numerous benefits, being so durable, and having a less environmental impact than cotton, linen is the choice if you’re looking for something to love and to accompany you all night.

We’re here to offer this premium fiber more accessible and available directly to consumers, which cuts off the middleman price while still delivering the best linen available. We sell exclusively via online so to be able to cut off the usual retail markups and pass the savings to you.

  3. But why should we choose your linen over other regular sheets?
To begin with, we’re proud to say that we’ve perfected our finishing technique for more than two decades. The finishing of every fabric is the last crucial part that makes the impression last. But hey, linen is one of the most preferred materials for bed sheets (pun intended) due to its durability and hypoallergenic properties. It is three times stronger than cotton. This is because the cellulose fibers in linen yarn are slightly longer and wrapped tighter than those found in cotton yarn. This gives it great durability and allows linen products to be long-lasting. (Wikipedia, n.d)

Linen is temperature regulating which is perfect for all seasons, keeping you just in the right temperature every hot and cool nights with its high air permeability. Linen is also stain resistant and ultra-absorbent which makes your sheets feel dry and fresh longer. While the cherry on top, linen only gets better with time; softening and growing on you with each wash and use.

  4. What is your linen dyed with?
We use only non-harmful dyes across our collection, every piece of our item is OEKO-TEX 100 Certified. When a fabric is certified with this OEKO-TEX certification it means that it has been declared safe for humans, animals, and the planet. You can rest easy every time you rest on our pillows knowing that every single thread and fiber in our sheets and wearables are free from harmful chemicals.

  5. Where is The Katha linen manufactured?
Our linen is grown in France; South of France by farmers and suppliers, and then produced into sets in China, and Lithuania.

  6. Do you have a thread count?
In general, beddings have their own thread count, however it is still a myth that higher thread counts is equal to better sleep. Our linen beddings is 170gsm, in fact linen does not have thread count - it is just so natural that we all measure by grams per square meter (GSM). with the density of 170 GSM, you are sleeping on the most perfected linen fabric ever, it is not too heavy or thin. Light enough to stay breathable in summer and heavy enough to warm you up in summer whilst maintaining the quality to be less susceptible to tear.

  7. How sustainable is The Katha linen?
Rated to be one of the most eco-friendly and durable fabrics. These little fibers are very resilient and also require 20 times less water than cotton. Linen also does not need any pesticides to grow. The whole flax plant is utilized and renewable, biodegradable and recyclable.
